Charles A. Johnson

b. 1962, Forth Worth, TX

Based in Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, Charles A. Johnson creates large-scale contemporary botanical sculptures from reconstituted stone. He began his sculpture career in the mid 1980s, studying under San Diego figurative sculptor, TJ Dixon.

Bringing a background in restoration, he creates sculptures full with symbolic meaning, both in subjects chosen and the patinas used. His passion for nature resonates through these indoor/outdoor sculptures, which evoke the past though are thoroughly modern. The sculptures’ magnified size and carefully carved details show their scientific accuracy. They are presented on pedestals or set simply on the ground by a front gate, patio or in the garden. Scaled to be moved and manipulated, the sculptures allow for interaction by their owners.
