Kate Nessler

b. 1950, St. Louis, MO

Born in St. Louis in 1950, Kate Nessler now resides in Arkansas surrounded by her carefully selected plant gardens. Working from these garden specimens, Nessler often layers watercolor and graphite on highly textured vellum to produce artworks that appear both contemporary and antique. Fittingly, she finds inspiration in Paleolithic cave paintings, along with the work of Paul Gauguin, J.M.W. Turner, and Pierre-Joseph Redouté. Nessler's work is detailed, introspective and thoroughly unique. The recipient of numerous awards, including three gold medals from the Royal Horticultural Society in the early 1990s and the Distinguished Alumni Artist Award from Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, MI, her work has been exhibited and collected worldwide.
