Carol Woodin

September 2013

Carol Woodin has received an award from the Lankester Botanical Garden in Costa Rica. They are known for their orchid research and a highly esteemed publication devoted to orchids. Here are excerpts from the letter she received, "the first Lankester Award for Orchid Art for your extraordinary contributions to the knowledge of the orchid family through botanical art. Your numerous works in major art collections of botanical galleries around the world and your outstanding contributions to the illustration of important botanical treatments of orchids such as the endangered genus Paphiopedilum have contributed to increase the appreciation and understanding of orchids. The positive message that you are transmitting though botanical art has helped significantly to increase the awareness of the importance of protecting this fragile family."

August 1, 2012 - September 30, 2012

Carol Woodin has been selected as a First Selection artist for the first Santorini Biennale of Arts on the Greek Island of Santorini

An international interdisciplinary art exhibition of emerging and established artists working on the borders between different art disciplines, allowing them to surpass the traditional (and perhaps limiting) concepts of classicism, modernism, contemporary and applied arts. The Santorini Biennale of Arts is inspired by the ways in which ideas are born and disseminated – how they then develop and diversify within our increasingly interconnected global society. Constructed as a large thematic exhibition, "The PAST: History, Time, Memory and Nostalgia," relies on these various exchanges and will examine intrinsic experiences and social relationships. The artwork will be displayed at uncommon venues throughout the island such as castles, renovated caves, ancient village dwellings, and tiny bookshops.

From Saturday, June 25, 2011 through Sunday, March 11, 2012 Carol Woodin's artwork will be on display as part of the "Plants in Peril," exhibition at the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, Kew Gardens, Kew, UK. Paintings included:

  • Phragmipedium kovachii (Peru)
  • Paphiopedilum venustum var. measuresianum (Bhutan, India)
  • Cypripedium reginae (North America)
  • Disa uniflora (South Africa)
