Elizabeth Enders is an American contemporary botanical artist whose lineage with the Garden Club of America begins in the early 20th century.  Elizabeth shared this exquisite painting which she gifted to her Aunt Ruth in 1967, inspired by the gardens in Newburyport, MA.  Elizabeth’s passion for botanicals stemmed from her grandmother, mother and aunt’s involvement with their local garden club chapter in MA.

Images below show the Newburyport Garden Club pamphlet cover which includes their “constitution” and many early articles from the community newspapers and The Boston Herald of some of the “famous homes” involved in the local annual Open Garden Day, organized by the Newburyport Garden Club.  Elizabeth is shown in the foreground in a floral dress, one of the vintage gowns worn during this event.  Her Grandmother, Mrs. James T. Connolly is featured in an article showing a vine-covered trellis as part of her floral exhibition.  Elizabeth’s connection to botanicals is rooted in the matriarchal line of women who informed her early appreciation and life long documentation of plants.

Enders works are included in major American museums and private collections.
